In Case You Were Wondering: Caviar Facials

Posted by Michelle Deken at

Just in case you missed this article, Forbes has done a round-up of spa locations worldwide that specialize in facials for the woman who has - well, everything.  These top-shelf facials feature a true indulgence:  caviar.

No, I'm not kidding.

According to manufacturers of cosmetic products which include caviar, the proteins, fatty and amino acids, lipids, vitamins and minerals reduce signs of aging, fine lines and wrinkles, and sagging and dull skin.  As for the actual science behind the claims?  (You know we're big on science around here!)  Well...  there may be some truth behind the trend!

If you are an avid caviar-facial devotee, we'd love to hear from you!  What's your favorite caviar-extract product?  And what do you love about it?

Good news!  In case you feel you've been missing out, don't despair.  There's a secret you need to know:  The major beneficial constituents in caviar extract are the same as you'll find in many (less spendy) cosmetic ingredients.  Surprise!

For example, linoleic acid (or "polyunsaturated fatty acid") is crucial to the skin.  It helps with wound healing, assists the normal barrier function of the skin, and prevents your skin from flaking.  We find this to be plentiful in caviar extract - and pumpkin seed oil

Ah, the pumpkin.  We love our pumpkin spice lattes and pumpkin pies.  Now we love our pumpkin seed oil for providing so many wondrous benefits to our skin!  Pumpkin seed oil is loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, which reduce the signs of aging.  It also contains phytosterols, which help reduce redness and inflammation and soothe our dry, itchy skin.

Midnight Scentworks recently reformulated our Shea Body Crème to include this fabulous ingredient.  How could we pass up all the benefits of pumpkin seed oil?  (Plus those fish eggs look just a little too scary for us to use on our skin, anyway.)  Enjoy!
